Make Up Her Own Rules: BatikMosaic Series

Make Up Her Own Rules “Batik + Mosaic”

Mosaics are produced using the finest materials gathered from different sources around the world and may included golf, marble, ceramic and more. Mosaics are all about essential structural and skeletal elements.

Batik is a method of dyeing cloth which involves the use of removable wax to repel the dye on parts of the design where the dye it is not desired.

Mosaic and batik have existed as independent art forms for thousands of years. Today, they are combined.

This is done by adding the essential structural and skeletal elements of mosaic into Malaysian Batik where breaking marble into bits and placing the pieces onto brown paper has been replaced with breaking wax into pieces and placing them onto fabrics.

All of the art works are based on original designs and are very unique.

People' first reaction to my Batik + Mosaic art work is often to want to touch it, and I am always delighted by this response ” says Emilia, Kuala Lumpur 2006
