Making Up Her Own Rules : Batik + Mosaic Exhibition
by Batik Artist Emilia Tan
“To find a Chinese lady taking interest in batik painting may be hard, but finding a talented one who is naturally interested in using batik as a medium of fine artistic expressions besides being keen on bringing it to the world stages is nearly impossible.
One such lady, though, is Emilia Tan.” By Soka Gakkai Malaysia 's monthly magazine COSMIC 2006
She is a fast emerging batik artist greatly inspired by natural, Australian aboriginal art and her own life experiences. After her research in Europe 2005, she came back with her Batik + Mosaic. Her fascination with the colour, texture and surfaces of batik art has remained constant, and now she is putting the essential structures and skeletal elements of mosaic into Malaysian Batik. The technique of breaking marble into bits and placing the pieces onto brown paper has been replaced with breaking wax into pieces and placing them onto fabric
All of Emilia Tan's art work are based on her own original designs and are unique. Batik and mosaic have existed as an art form for thousands of years and now, both are combined.
Come and appreciate Batik Artist Emilia Tan's new experimental series of work “ Batik + Mosaic”
