The Evolution of Batik Shifting from the complexity of conservative batik, Emilia Tan, (founder of TMS Art Gallery), re-interprets the traditional art into modern,’everyday’designs suitable for every occasion. The gallery features wearable art - jackets, ensembles, scarves, and bags - designed by Emilia Tan. Housing 10 resident artists under its roof, TMS Art current mission corresponds to the new direction it is heading towards, to cultivate the evolutionary change of contemporary fashion. Batik, is a traditional technique from Java, Indonesia, in which a wax-resist illustration is applied by hand or block-printed. Emilia Tan's designs are derived from free-flowing inspirations of any period, especially the current times. Not only is nature a great influence, but also geometrical shapes and forms. Experimenting batik on different fabrics and colour compositions, Emilia Tan elevates batik to new levels of elegance and creative ingenuity. Each design is spawned from motifs and styles ranging from the traditionally romantic to the modern wearer. Some are simple upon first look, yet complex with hidden depth and richness once you delve a little deeper. Imagination reigns in TMS Art. |
